The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 487 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to motion pictures to join the organization. There are 71 Oscar® nominees, including 19 winners, among the invitees.

Gunnur Martinsdóttir Schlüter was awarded the Eva Maria Daniels Award for Vital Filmmaking for her narrative short film FÁR at the Stockfish Film & Industry Festival (SFIF). The prestigious prize came with 1.5 million Icelandic Króna for the filmmaker to put towards their next project. The ceremony took place at the 25th annual Edda Awards, presented by the Icelandic Film and Television Academy.

The Teachers’ Lounge by German director İlker Çatak is the winner of the LUX European Audience Film Award voted on by the European public and the members of the European Parliament. Johannes Duncker who co-wrote the screenplay with İlker Çatak, accepted the Award at a ceremony in the European Parliament in Brussels.

The Holdovers, American Fiction and The Pigeon Tunnel walked away with awards at the 2024 Writers Guild Awards over the weekend.

The Color Purple dominated the motion picture category of the 55th NAACP Image Awards, winning multiple awards including the top honor of Outstanding Motion Picture along with Outstanding Actress for Fantasia Barrino, Outstanding Supporting Actress for Taraji P. Henson, and Outstanding Ensemble Cast. Outstanding Actor went to co-star Colman Domingo for his performance in Rustin.

Andrea Pallaoro’s Monica received the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Film – Limited Theatrical Release presented by Scott Evans at the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. The film stars trans actress Trace Lysette as a woman who returns home to care for her ailing mother who she hasn’t seen in years. Also starring in the film are Patricia Clarkson, Emily Browning, and Adriana Barraza.

Oppenheimer was the big winner at the 96th Academy Awards, taking home the top award for Best Picture along with best director for Christopher Nolan, best actor for Cillian Murphy and best supporting actor for Robert Downey Jr.
