“Being From Another Planet,” an independent film by The Coughing Dog Pictures that was shot primarily shot in Michigan cities of Marine City and Richmond will have its premiere on Friday night, March 25 in Marine City, Michigan.

The 2011 Hot Docs will open with the Canadian premiere of Morgan Spurlock’s POM WONDERFUL PRESENTS: THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER SOLD (USA, 90 min), a “doc-buster” financed entirely by product placement, marketing and advertising.
Hot Docs announced the 26 documentary features that will be a part of this year’s Special Presentations program, a high-profile collection of world and international premieres, award-winners from the recent international festival circuit, and works by master filmmakers, and featuring some star subjects. These films will screen as part of the 2011 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, running April 28 to May 8 in Toronto.

The Female Eye Film Festival (FeFF) wrapped on Sunday March 20, 2011 with record-breaking attendance and success. The San Francisco Film Society announced that Frank Pierson will be the recipient of the Kanbar Award for excellence in screenwriting at the 54th San Francisco International Film Festival (April 21 – May 5). The Kanbar Award acknowledges the crucial importance of a script in the production of an exceptional film and is named in honor of Maurice Kanbar, a longtime member of the board of directors of the Film Society, film commissioner and philanthropist with a particular interest in supporting independent filmmakers.

The Tribeca Film Institute (TFI) announced the 12 projects selected for Tribeca All Access (TAA) program. Now in its eighth year, TAA was created to help foster and nurture relationships between film industry executives and filmmakers from traditionally underrepresented communities. TAA will present the 12 projects throughout a five-day program taking place during the annual Tribeca Film Festival (TFF), presented by American Express, held from April 20 – May 1, 2011. This year, the program will introduce $10,000 grants for each project along with tailored mentorships to maximize its impact.
