Toronto After Dark Film Festival 2010 wrapped up eight thrilling nights of new horror, sci-fi, action and cult movies blazing new cinematic trails and setting new records! A new high of over 9,300 enthusiastic fans attended the festival which ran Aug 13-20 at the city’s legendary Bloor Cinema, over double the size of the event of just four years ago!
Southern California’s wine country will be invaded by film, music and celebrities during the 16th Annual Temecula Valley International Film Festival, September 15-19, 2010. The internationally renowned festival is comprised of more than 150 screenings of features, documentaries and shorts from around the world, a two-day music festival, film and music industry workshops, celebrity studded parties and a marketplace bazaar in the Southern California wine country town of Temecula. Career Achievement Awards will be presented to actor Eric Roberts (THE EXPENDABLES, DARK KNIGHT) for acting, and pop legend Kenny Loggins (FOOTLOOSE, THIS IS IT) for music. The ninth annual Tribeca Film Festival (TFF), co-founded by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff, and presented by Founding Sponsor American Express, today announced a total attendance of over 410,000 at screenings, panels and free community events, including the Drive-In and Street Fair.Theater attendance for the Festival screenings and events reached over 94,000. Screenings were often at capacity, with more than 95% attendance at 396 screenings and panels throughout the 12-day Festival.
Texas Frightmare Weekend announced the award winners for its companion Texas Frightmare Film Festival at the conclusion of the record breaking convention on Sunday, May 2.
Taking the jury prize for Best Feature was Nathan Hynes’s and Chris Powers’ LONG PIGS. The film shows the results after two desperate young filmmakers stumble upon their ultimate subject, a 33 year old cannibalistic serial killer, who has agreed to let them document every aspect of his horrifically violent life-style.

Thirty-seven students from 21 colleges and universities have been selected as finalists in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 37th Annual Student Academy Awards competition. Academy members will view these films at special screenings and vote to select the winners. Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal awards, along with accompanying cash prizes of $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000, respectively, may be presented in each of four categories. The winning filmmakers will be brought to Los Angeles for a week of industry-related activities and social events that will culminate in the awards ceremony on Saturday, June 12, at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
Los Angeles Greek Film Festival (LAGFF) announced the 2010 line-up of films for its 4th annual Festival, which runs June 10 – 13 at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. LAGFF is excited to present 7 feature films, 4 documentaries and 5 shorts, including 1 world premiere, 12 US premieres and 3 LA premieres during the 3-day Festival.
The Tribeca Film Institute and Gucci announced the recipients selected for the 2010 Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund which provides finishing finances to domestic and international documentary filmmakers with feature-length films that document pressing social issues of immediate and historical significance. In the third year of the fund, seven projects have been selected from 390 submissions from 23 countries to receive a total of $100,000, to be administered by the Tribeca Film Institute (TFI).
The projects were selected by a committee consisting of Diana Barrett, Liz Garbus, Simon Kilmurry, Trevor Neilson, and Mariane Pearl who chose the recipients from finalists previously selected by TFI. The projects that will receive funding are:
