International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) revealed the 14 films selected for the festival’s Tiger Competition, as well as the Big Screen Competition and Ammodo Tiger Short Competition selections. The festival also announced the IFFR 2022 Selection available to audiences in the Netherlands on IFFR.com from January 26 to February 6, 2022. The program includes titles in Harbour, Limelight, Bright Future and Cinema Regained.

Worn by everyone from presidents to supermodels, farmers to rock stars, they’re more than just a pair of pants — America’s tangled past is woven deeply into the indigo fabric. From its roots in slavery to the Wild West, youth culture, the civil rights movement, rock and roll, hippies, high fashion and hip-hop, jeans are the fabric on which the history of American culture and politics are writ large. Written, directed and produced by Anna Lee Strachan and Michael Bicks and executive produced by Cameo George, “Riveted: The History of Jeans” premieres Monday, February 7, 2022, 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET (check local listings) on American Experience on PBS, PBS.org and the PBS Video App.

Samuel Goldwyn Films acquired the Bhutanese film Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom, which is shortlisted for Best International Film at the 2022 Academy Awards. Written and directed by Pawo Choyning Dorji, the film tells the story of a young teacher sent to teach at the most remote mountain school in the world. Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in 2019 and won the Audience Award at last year’s Palm Springs Film Festival. Samuel Goldwyn Films will announce release information at a later date.
In light of the global surge in Covid-19 cases, the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan (MMJCCM) will move to a Virtual festival for its 3rd annual Cinematters: NY Social Justice Film Festival, with dates remaining the same – January 13–17, 2022. Screenings will be shown via Eventive and exclusive Q+A’s will be hosted via Zoom. All Q+As will now take place at the times that in-person screenings would have been scheduled.
