Virginia Film Festival is back in-person in its 34th year with a vibrant and diverse program of more than 85 films, including 60 features, and an outstanding lineup of special guests and discussions. The 2021 VAFF will feature theatrical presentations as well as reprise last year’s popular drive-in series at the picturesque Morven Farm in eastern Albemarle County.

The 63rd Lübeck Nordic Film Days (Nordische Filmtage Lübeck) will open with the German premiere of the Icelandic action-comedy Cop Secret (Leynilögga, Iceland, 2021) about a cop in denial of his sexuality, who falls in love with his new partner, while investigating a string of bank break-in.

Showtime released the official trailer for the upcoming documentary Passion Play: Russell Westbrook, an intensely personal examination of one of the most dynamic and complex figures in professional sports. The documentary premieres on Friday, October 15 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.

A24 released the official trailer for The Souvenir Part II, Joanna Hogg’s dazzling follow-up to The Souvenir, starring Honor Swinton Byrne, Jaygann Ayeh, Richard Ayoade, Ariane Labed, James Spencer Ashworth, Harris Dickinson, Charlie Heaton, Joe Alwyn, and Tilda Swinton. The Souvenir Part II opens in theaters on October 29.

Bertrand Mandico’s After Blue (Dirty Paradise) snagged the top prize for Best Film at Fantastic Fest 2021. In the film, set on a mysterious new planet populated entirely by women, teenager Roxy and her mother undergo a fantastical journey in pursuit of a murderous criminal.

Virgil Films will release “The Mustangs: America’s Wild Horses” – an incredible story about America’s wild horses from their turbulent history to their uncertain future. Directed by Steven Latham and Conrad Stanley, the documentary will open theatrically nationwide on October 15th followed by an HD TVOD digital release.

Samuel Kishi Leopo’s Los Lobos received the most audience votes to win the prestigious Cinelatino & DishLATINO Audience Choice award at the 2021 Hola Mexico Film Festival (HMFF). Los Lobos tells the story of Lucía, a young Mexican mother, who crosses the border from Mexico into the United States with her sons, Max and Leo, in search of a better life. But the transition is difficult for the boys, who spend their days stuck in an unfurnished apartment while Lucía works multiple jobs. Inside their own kingdom of imagination, the adorable Max and Leo create an alternative reality, depicted as animated sequences. Buoyed by the support of some helpful neighbors and their love for each other, this small family tries hard to stay afloat as they await the day when they can finally visit Disneyland together.

Dark Star Pictures will release Time Now, writer/director Spencer King’s highly anticipated new mystery-thriller starring Eleanor Lambert and Claudia Black (“Farscape”, “The Nevers”).
