The French-set comedy-drama Mr. Blake at Your Service, starring John Malkovich, French actress Fanny Ardant, and the late Émilie Dequenne will open in U.S. theaters on June 20, 2025.

The American Film Institute (AFI) will confer a Doctorate of Fine Arts degree honoris causa for contributions of distinction to the art of the moving image upon actress and producer Viola Davis and film editor and sound designer Walter Murch at the AFI Conservatory’s commencement ceremony celebrating the Class of 2025.

The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has voted to present Academy Honorary Awards to Debbie Allen, Tom Cruise and Wynn Thomas, and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to Dolly Parton. The four Oscar® statuettes will be presented at the Academy’s 16th Governors Awards on November 16, 2025.

Writer-director Alexander Payne will receive the prestigious honorary leopard award, the Pardo d’Onore at the upcoming 78th Locarno Film Festival taking place from August 6-16, 2025. Payne will also present his films The Descendants and Nebraska and participate in a public discussion with the festival audience.

Michael Douglas will attend the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival to present a newly restored version of Miloš Forman’s 1975 classic One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest as part of the “Out of the Past” section. Michael Douglas, one of the film’s producers and recipient of the Academy Award for Best Picture, will personally introduce the restored version at a special gala screening. He will be joined by fellow producer Paul Zaentz – nephew of the late Saul Zaentz, who co-produced the film, as well as members of Miloš Forman’s family.

The 24th San Francisco Documentary Film Festival (SF DocFest) announced the winners with Audience Award for Best Feature going to Rebel With A Clause directed by Brandt Johnson and Jury Prize for Best Feature going to Flamingo Camp directed by Chris Coats.

In his signature style, Jim Hosking’s latest film Ebony & Ivory reunites him with his faithful collaborators Sky Elobar and Gil Gex in a surreal, comedic “anti-biopic.” Elobar and Gex play exaggerated versions of musical icons – rumored to be Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder – who convene in a remote Scottish cottage to forge a song that’s anything but ordinary.
