AFI FEST 2019 presented by Audi will host An Evening With Peter Morgan which will include a conversation with Academy Award®-nominated, Emmy Award®-nominated and Golden Globe®-winning writer and producer in tribute to his celebrated career, followed by a Gala screening of the highly anticipated third season of Netflix’s THE CROWN. In attendance alongside Morgan will be season three cast members; Olivia Colman, Tobias Menzies, Helena Bonham Carter, Josh O’Connor and Erin Doherty. The event will be held on Saturday, November 16, at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre.

Film Independent announced the producers selected for its 19th annual Producing Lab. This intensive program is designed to help creative, independent producers develop their skills and further their careers by introducing Fellows to film professionals who can advise them on both the craft and business of independent producing. Each Producing Lab Fellow will be paired with an experienced Creative Advisor with whom they’ll work to develop their project over the course of the program.

Revisiting the streets, stores and memories of his childhood, Shapiro reflects on the singularity of the borough he grew up in and the close friendships he made there that have stood the test of time.

The Apollo, directed by Oscar(R) and Emmy(R) winner Roger Ross Williams (“Music By Prudence,” “Life Animated”), chronicles the legacy of New York City’s landmark Apollo Theater, covering the rich history of the storied performance space over its 85 years. What began as a refuge for marginalized artists emerged as a hallowed hall of black excellence and empowerment. In the film, Williams reflects on the struggle of black lives in America, the role that art plays in that struggle, and the part the Apollo Theater continues to play in the cultural conversation.

Martin Scorcese’s critically acclaimed “The Irishman” (Netflix) will open the 2019 Key West Film Festival, and the festival will close with Trey Edward Shults “Waves” (A24). Orlando-based director Stults will appear for a Q&A.

The critically-acclaimed documentary Queen of Lapa from directors Theodore Collatos and Carolina Monnerat will have its much-anticipated New York premiere as part of the documentary competition at the 31st edition of New Fest: New York’s LGBTQ Film Festival, taking place October 23 to 29.
