Academy Award-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins will be honored with the Variety Artisan Award at this year’s TIFF Tribute Gala awards event during the 44th Toronto International Film Festival. The award recognizes a distinguished filmmaker who has excelled at their craft and made an outstanding contribution to cinema.

The European premiere of Blackbird, starring Susan Sarandon, Kate Winslet, Mia Wasikowska and Sam Neill, will open the Official Competition at the 67th edition of the San Sebastian Festival. Directed by Roger Michell, Blackbird is a remake of Stille Hjerte / Silent Heart (2014), the drama with which the Danish filmmaker Bille August competed at the Festival and for which Paprika Steen won the Silver Shell for Best Actress.

The 2019 Toronto International Film Festival unveiled the rich slate of films from 48 countries in the lineup for its 2019 Contemporary World Cinema (CWC) programs. Festival of Cinema NYC announce the winners of its 3rd annual event at the Awards Gala on Sunday. From a pool of nearly 450 film submissions, the festival presented 125 remarkable films from 25 countries with the top awards going to “Quest – The Truth Always Rises” directed by Santiago Rizzo for Best Feature Narrative, and “The Ringmaster” directed by Molly Dworsky and Dave Newberg for Best Documentary.
