Sydney’s festival for cult, underground and independent films, the Sydney Underground Film Festival (SUFF), returns with a packed program from Thursday 8th to Sunday 11th September at a new location, Event Cinemas George Street, for the Festival’s first in-person edition of the since 2019.

The Overlook Film Festival 2022 will open with the North American premiere of Ana Lily Amirpour’s Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon, which features a stellar cast including Jeon Jong-soo, Kate Hudson and Craig Robinson. Shot in New Orleans, this fantastical boundary pushing tale marks the third feature from acclaimed director Amirpour.

IFC Films will release The Rental, Dave Franco’s chilling thriller co-written by Franco and Joe Swanberg day-and-date on July 24th. The film stars Alison Brie (Glow, Horse Girl, Promising Young Woman), Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey, Call of the Wild), Jeremy Allen White (Shameless) and Sheila Vand (A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, Snowpiercer).

Gille Klabin’s psychedelic sci-fi adventure-comedy The Wave starring Justin Long and Donald Faison, which world premiered at Austin’s famous Fantastic Fest is headed to nationwide theaters and VOD on January 17th, 2020 from Epic Pictures Group.

20 celebrated and revered expert voices across film, art, culture and science will award feature-length and short films shown at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival with 12 prizes, announced at a ceremony on February 2. Short Film Awards will be announced at a separate ceremony on January 29; both award ceremonies will be livestreamed. The Festival takes place January 24 through February 3 in Park City, Salt Lake City and Sundance, Utah.

Jeremy Zagar’s We The Animals, based on the celebrated novel by Justin Torres, and winner of the Innovator Award at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival will open on August 17 in New York and Los Angeles with a national rollout to follow.

The 36th Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) taking place from 16 to 26 July, the city unveiled a lineup that includes 74 feature films, 50 documentaries, 74 short films and 23 surf films. The festival also offers an extensive workshop and seminar program in which industry experts from around the world share their knowledge and skills.

FilmBuff in partnership with VICE Media will release in the U.S., PRINCE (PRINS), the feature debut from acclaimed Dutch music video director Sam de Jong. PRINCE first debuted at the 2015 Berlinale, where it received an honorary mention for the coveted Crystal Bear for Best First Feature. Produced by 100% Halal, PRINCE will be available in North America in theaters and all major VOD platforms starting August 14th, 2015.

Richard Linklater’s twelve-years-in-the-making BOYHOOD was picked by the 35 Bay Area film critics that comprise the San Francisco Film Critics Circle, as the Best Picture of 2014, and Richard Linklater the Best Director. Patricia Arquette, as BOYHOOD’s enduring mother, earned Best Supporting Actress honors, and Sandra Adair took the Best Editing prize for crafting the narrative’s years-long progression. The group also gave laurels to Best Documentary CITIZENFOUR, and Best Foreign Language Picture IDA(Poland). Charlie McDowell’s indie film THE ONE I LOVE was honored with a Special Citation for under-appreciated independent cinema.
