Yorgos Lanthimos’ black comedy The Favourite was out front with 10 nominations for the 39th annual London Critics’ Circle Film Awards, including Film, Director, Screenwriter, Actress for Olivia Colman and Supporting Actress for Rachel Weisz. In addition, the film is nominated for British/Irish Film of the Year.

The Washington DC Area Film Critics Association (WAFCA) which comprises of 60 DC-based film critics from the District, Maryland and Virginia announced their nominees for the 2018 awards. The Favourite lead with 10 nominations including Best Film and Best Director for Yorgos Lanthimos. Other films nominated for Best Film include A Star Is Born, Green Book, If Beale Street Could Talk, and Roma.
The nominees for Best Documentary are Free Solo, RBG, Science Fair, Three Identical Strangers and Won’t You Be My Neighbor? The nominees for Best Foreign Film are Burning, Capernaum, Cold War, Roma and Shoplifters. The nominees for the special category The Joe Barber Award for Best Portrayal of Washington, DC are The Front Runner, RBG and Vice.
The 2018 WAFCA Award winners will be announced on Monday, December 3, 2018.
Bad Times at the El Royale written and directed by Drew Goddard will open the 13th Rome Film Fest taking place October 18 to 28, 2018.
Director Drew Goddard began his career as a writer, first for television and then for the big screen, writing the screenplay for Cloverfield and The Martian, which won him an Oscar® nomination. He also created the Netflix series Daredevil. After making his directorial feature film debut with The Cabin in the Woods, he is back behind the camera with his sophomore film, a mystery thriller: seven strangers, each with a secret to bury, meet at Lake Tahoe’s El Royale, a rundown hotel with a dark past on the border between California and Nevada. Over the course of one fateful night, everyone will have a last shot at redemption. The film’s cast includes Oscar®-winner Jeff Bridges, Cynthia Erivo, Dakota Johnson, Jon Hamm, Cailee Spaeny, Lewis Pullman, Nick Offerman and Chris Hemsworth.

The world premiere of Bad Times at the El Royale, directed by Drew Goddard and starring Jeff Bridges, Chris Hemsworth, Jon Hamm and Dakota Johnson, will close the Official Selection of the San Sebastian International Film Festival’s 66th edition, out of competition. This is Drew Goddard’s second film, following his first feature, The Cabin in the Woods (2012).
Goddard, who penned the scripts for Cloverfield (2008), War World Z (2013) and The Martian (2015) and has produced TV series including Lost or Alias, boasts a cast headed by Donostia Award winner Jeff Bridges, Chris Hemsworth (Thor, The Avengers), Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey, Suspiria) and Jon Hamm (Mad Men, The Town).
In the film, seven strangers, each with a secret to bury, meet at Lake Tahoe’s El Royale, a rundown hotel with a dark past. Over the course of one fateful night, everyone will have a last shot at redemption… before everything goes to hell.
The soundtrack of the film, which brings seven strangers together in a rundown hotel on Lake Tahoe, is composed by Michael Giacchino (Jurassic World, Coco, Up) and its director of photography is Seamus McGarvey (Godzilla, Nocturnal Animals, Darkest Hour).
