
Malcolm Washington’s The Piano Lesson leads in motion picture categories for the 56th NAACP Image Awards with 14 nods including Outstanding Motion Picture.

Anora won 5 awards at the 2024 Austin Film Critics Association Awards, including Best Film, Best Director along with Best Original Screenplay for Sean Baker, Best Actress for Mikey Madison, and Best Supporting Actor for Yura Borisov. Madison was also one of five recipients of this year’s Robert R. “Bobby” McCurdy Memorial Breakthrough Award.

RaMell Ross’ Nickel Boys has been named the Best Picture of 2024 by the National Society of Film Critics along with the honor of Best Cinematography for Jomo Fray.

Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof will attend the 2025 Göteborg Film Festival, and present his film, The Seed of the Sacred Fig, which is banned in Iran. The Seed of the Sacred Fig is the centerpiece of the festival’s Focus: Disobedience and will have its premiere on January 30 followed by a Directors Talk with Rasoulof. Mohammad Rasoulof is also featured as the screenwriter of Seven Days by Ali Samadi Ahadi, which will be shown during the Göteborg Film Festival.

BAFTA unveiled the longlists for all 25 categories including Best Film, Director, Documentary, Film Not in the English Language, the performance categories, and a new Children’s & Family Film category, continuing through to Round Two of voting for the 2025 EE BAFTA Film Awards.

Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist leads the nominations for the 2024 Austin Film Critics Association (AFCA) with 10, including Best Director, Best Picture, Best Score, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and a host of acting categories.

For the first time in the history of the award, two films – Sean Baker’s Anora and Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance tied for the top prize of Best Film at the Online Association of Female Film Critics end of year 2024 awards.
