The documentary Jimmy Carter: Rock & Roll President will premiere on television on CNN on Sunday, January 3. During his political career and following his presidency, the 39th President of the United States formed lifelong bonds with artists Willie Nelson, the Allman Brothers, Rosanne Cash, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Nile Rodgers, and many, many others. Director Mary Wharton’s engaging film explores how President Carter’s deep love of all forms of music has been both a feature and an asset for his storied life and career.

The documentary “Baby God”, debuting on HBO on Wednesday, December 2 (9:00-10:20 p.m. ET/PT), from first-time director Hannah Olson, is a shocking examination of the work of a Las Vegas fertility specialist and the many women he guided to pregnancy through use of his own sperm, often without their knowledge or consent. The documentary follows his newly-discovered offspring as they grapple with the scope of his misdeeds and the impact that his genes may have on their own identities.

Greenwich Entertainment released the official trailer for the documentary Assassins on the audacious murder of the brother of North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un in a crowded Malaysian airport in 2017. The 32nd annual Palm Springs International Film Festival which was scheduled for Thursday, February 25, 2021 through Monday, March 8, 2021, will not take place and instead shifts to 2022.

Disney+ released the trailer for the new original docuseries “Inside Pixar,” premiering on Friday, November 13. The series consists of four collections with five short stories in each collection, centered around a central theme. The first collection releasing on Friday is “Inspired,” exploring what sparks inspiration and the journey from idea to execution.

IFC Films acquired Kurt Vonnegut: Unstuck in Time, the touching, long-in-the-works documentary directed by industry masters Robert B. Weide (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and Don Argott (The Art of the Steal). The film traces the life and career of famed novelist and humorist Kurt Vonnegut, who died in 2007 at age 84. IFC Films is planning a release in Summer 2021.

Forty-one films and series are nominated for this year for the 30th Annual IFP Gotham Awards, considered one of the leading awards for independent film and signaling the kick-off to the film awards season. Best Feature nominations went to The Assistant, First Cow, Never Rarely Sometimes Always, Nomadland, and Relic, becoming the first time all of the best feature nominees are directed by women. In total, eleven competitive awards will be presented to independent features and series.
