Reviews
Giving the film a B+ in their review, Indiewire wrote, “At times, “Scrambled” feels like a TV show, which isn’t a bad thing at all. In fact, it’s a compliment: the film has quick quips, good timing, and tight pacing mostly found in nowadays in episodic structures. When Nellie writes a letter to her 20 frozen eggs saying that she’s proud of “us” and signs it as “Mom,” it’s the kind of pay-off that a six seasons and a movie cult favorite TV show would feel like.”
““Scrambled” is a toast to McKendrick herself, who is among IndieWire’s top female filmmakers to watch this year.”
Deadline review was a bit lukewarm, writing, “It’s perhaps because the snark is so much more original than the otherwise predictable emotional story beats that moments like this are so frustrating, and, indeed, Scrambled ends with a nagging sense of seriously unrealized potential, despite the artificial whoo-let’s-have-a-party sugar high that’s slathered over the end credits. Which may seem harsh, but as writer, director, and star McKendrick set herself a high bar to start with, and it’s to her credit that Scrambled comes with the promise of more and better to follow.”
