IFC Films debuted the official trailer for Late Night with the Devil, the found footage horror film starring David Dastmalchian as the host of a 1970s late-night talk show interviewing a guest when all hell starts breaking loose during the live television broadcast.
Also starring in the film are Laura Gordon, Ian Bliss and Fayssal Bazzi.
Release Date
Directed by Australian brothers Cameron and Colin Cairnes, Late Night with the Devil world premiered at South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW) and opens in theaters and on demand on March 22, 2024.
Synopsis
Dastmalchian stars as Jack Delroy, the host of a fictional 1970s variety and late-night talk show titled Night Owls with Jack Delroy. The film purports to be derived from a rediscovered master tape of an episode from the show’s 6th season, broadcast on Halloween 1977; during this live television broadcast, havoc unfolds when Delroy interviews a parapsychologist (Laura Gordon) and the subject of her recent book, a young teenager (Ingrid Torelli) who was the sole survivor of a Satanic church’s mass suicide.
Reviews
Variety reviewed the film at the well-received SXSW premiere, writing, “This isn’t the scariest movie, but neither is it entirely a self-conscious joke. The Cairnes maintain an astute balance between pop-culture irony, familiar if not always predictable thrills (including some creature/gore FX), and a kind of hallucinatory mass-media surrealism — one that recalls the title of a 1970s cautionary tome about TV, “The Plug-In Drug.””
Calling the film ‘best possession horror in years’ in their review, Smash Cut Reviews wrote, “Late Night with the Devil is one of the best exorcism horror movies in years. With keen 70s aesthetics, a dread-filled atmosphere and career-best performance by character actor David Dastmalchian, this found footage horror transmits its sinister airwaves through the screen resulting in a devilishly fun slow-burn romp.”
