
Award-winning playwright David Mamet returns to the director’s chair with Henry Johnson, his first theatrical film in 17 years. The prison drama stars Evan Jonigkeit as a man whose life is upended by an act of compassion, leading him into a morally ambiguous journey. Shia LaBeouf co-stars as a charismatic and manipulative inmate who becomes Henry’s cellmate, drawing him deeper into a world of ethical uncertainty. The film is an adaptation of Mamet’s 2023 play of the same name.
Written and directed by David Mamet, Henry Johnson opens Friday May 9th at The Aero Theatre in Los Angeles and available to Rent on HenryJohnsonMovie.com, then expands to additional markets throughout May.
According to the official synopsis: Henry Johnson follows the title character (Jonigkeit) as he navigates his search for a moral center, after an act of compassion upends his life. Looking to authority figures he encounters along the way — including his eventual cellmate, Gene (LaBeouf) — Henry’s journey leads him down a road of manipulation and ethical uncertainty.
