New restoration of John Hanson and Rob Nilsson’s Northern Lights to be re-released in theaters

Winner of the Camera d’Or at the 1979 Cannes Film Festival, the sui generis Northern Lights marks one of the most moving and committed works of political cinema from the late 1970s. Dramatizing the formation of the populist Nonpartisan League in North Dakota in the mid-1910s, Northern Lights captures the plight of immigrant Dakotan farmers as they toil and struggle against the combined forces of industry and finance. Amid this paroxysm of class tension, two young lovers find themselves swept up in the tide. Shot on location (on grain-rich black-and-white 16mm) in the dead of winter and featuring an astonishing cast of non-professional actors, this handmade masterpiece remains a stirring monument to collectivity.

American Thunder: NASCAR to Le Mans documentary debuts on Prime Video
Prime Video released the official trailer for American Thunder: NASCAR to Le Mans, a feature-length documentary about NASCAR’s 2023 endeavor to compete in the historic 24 Hours of Le Mans race with an American stock car.
Directed by Brad Lockhart, the documentary – formerly known as Garage 56 – will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide on June 12.
The 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the crown jewels of international motorsports. It’s a showcase of sports car racing excellence that tests the limits of man and machine. For the race’s 100th anniversary running in June 2023, an invitation was extended to NASCAR to bring an American stock car Chevrolet Camaro to compete against the futuristic Ferrari and Porsche prototypes and attempt to complete the grueling 24-hour challenge that is Le Mans. It was NASCAR Chairman and CEO Jim France’s dream since childhood to have one of his cars race at Le Mans, so he recruited NASCAR’s most successful team, Hendrick Motorsports, to build and race the car. Along with world-class drivers Jenson Button, Jimmie Johnson, and Mike Rockenfeller, Hendrick Motorsports embarked on an eighteen-month journey to develop a race car designed to run three-hour races on ovals in the United States into one that could survive the challenge of racing 24 hours straight on an unforgiving road course.

The Darkside of Society, the documentary behind the 1989 cult classic released by Uncork’d
The Darkside of Society, a new documentary that peels back the layers of one of the most notorious cult classics ever made, Society (1989) will be released on digital and on demand platforms starting May 13, 2025 by Uncork’d Entertainment.
When Society first hit screens in 1989, its surreal and grotesque portrayal of elite depravity stunned audiences and secured its place as a horror essential. But while the film’s infamous “shunting” scene left an indelible mark on genre fans, its writer — then known as Woody Keith — was enduring a very real psychological unraveling behind the scenes.
Today, he is Zeph E. Daniel, and for the first time, he shares his chilling truth. Far from a nostalgic celebration, The Darkside of Society explores Daniel’s revelation that the film’s twisted plot was more autobiographical than he ever intended — a subconscious manifestation of repressed childhood trauma.
Directed by Larry Wade Carrell — Daniel’s producing partner at Crazed House — the documentary is a raw, unfiltered examination of art, memory, and the dark corners of the creative process. Carrell and Daniel previously collaborated on the award-winning thriller Girl Next and the recently released The Quantum Devil, installments of their ongoing “Quantum Quartet” film series.
The Darkside of Society had its world premiere at the prestigious Sitges – Catalonian International Film Festival in 2023 and went on to screen at FrightFest, captivating festival audiences with its raw, deeply personal exploration of horror history. The Darkside of Society features never-before-heard accounts from Daniel, rare behind-the-scenes insights, and a haunting new perspective on a film that shocked the world.
