In his signature style, Jim Hosking’s latest film Ebony & Ivory reunites him with his faithful collaborators Sky Elobar and Gil Gex in a surreal, comedic “anti-biopic.” Elobar and Gex play exaggerated versions of musical icons – rumored to be Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder – who convene in a remote Scottish cottage to forge a song that’s anything but ordinary.

Ebony & Ivory made its world premiere at Fantastic Fest, before trotting the globe to Night Visions in Finland, Glasgow Film Festival, and Calgary Underground Film Festival. Drafthouse Films has locked in August 8, 2025 for a limited theatrical and VOD release in the United States.

Here is the synopsis:

Ebony & Ivory stars The Greasy Strangler alumni Sky Elobar and Gil Gex as two musical legends who convene at a remote Scottish Cottage on The Mull Of Kintyre for a tense summit to discuss a potential creative collaboration. After a somewhat tricky start, their time together attains a perfect harmony that will ultimately result in a Global Number One smash hit single.

In an interview ahead of its Calgary screening, Hosking emphasized how Ebony & Ivory deliberately eschews biography and fidelity, saying “They don’t really look anything like them, they don’t sound anything like them, there’s nothing true in the film. The music has no bearing on the sound of the song Ebony and Ivory.”
