Releasing October 23, Allen Iv3rson, the three-part series about NBA legend Allen Iverson from Shaquille O’Neal’s Jersey Legends and Stephen Curry and Erick Peyton’s Unanimous Media unveiled its official trailer on October 8.
The docuseries, stylizing “Iverson” with a 3 for his jersey number, was previously announced on September 16 by Amazon, with One9 set to direct it.
Allen Iv3rson looks at his entire life – from trouble with the law, to his years playing at Georgetown, and the impressively decorated NBA career he attained after being drafted first overall in 1996. Iverson faced a lot of hardships throughout every stage of his life, but no matter how much adversity he faced—from prison, to getting a second chance at a career, and his struggles with NBA coaches and referees—he kept on pushing. His endless dedication to being the best person and player he could be remains as one of his most admirable traits among anyone that knows him.
Hailed as the “forefather for allowing people to be themselves” by O’Neal in the trailer, Iverson’s influence is felt seemingly deeper from before in this series. Several friends, family, as well as NBA players and coaches all share in-depth stories on what Iverson meant to them, such as two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who admits in the trailer that Iverson was who made him want to pick up basketball. In coordination with One9, Iverson gets more personal and dives deeper on his influence, even looking back on how his younger years, both the good and bad, influenced him to be who he is today.
“After competing against Allen for many years, I’ve witnessed his greatness firsthand,” says O’Neal in a quote from Deadline announcing the series. “I know the man Allen is, and I’m honored to tell his definitive story and show his impact off the court. Allen’s willingness to give One9 complete access to his life story will allow audiences to see the true Iverson for the first time.”
Curry and Peyton also spoke about the film, saying, “We’re proud to partner with Prime Video, Shaquille O’Neal, and Jersey Legends to tell the powerful story of Allen Iverson, a true original whose fearless authenticity reshaped the game and the culture around it. Allen Iv3rson goes beyond the highlights to explore the man behind the legend, from his upbringing to his lasting global impact. This film is a celebration of Iverson’s legacy and the path he paved for future generations.”
