Armageddon Road, Karen Lam’s dark fantasy and crime comedy, has been acquired by Red Water Entertainment for release in the U.S. and Canada.
The deal comes just ahead of the film’s world premiere at Fantaspoa International Fantastic Film Festival in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
Set in 1976 Las Vegas, Armageddon Road follows small-time gambler and mob driver Steve McNaulty (Brian McCaig), who believes he is on the verge of turning his life around. When a routine job transporting his boss’s girlfriend (Natalie Grace) goes awry, he finds himself on a desert road trip with a resurrected passenger (1970s teen idol Willie Aames) possessed by the Red Rider, the Second Horseman of the Apocalypse, who is intent on triggering the end of the world. Steve thinks its mob business gone sideways, while his passenger believes his references to “Big Moe” are references to God.

“Armageddon Road is both a work of fiction and something deeply personal,” said Lam. “I’ve always been fascinated by the question of God’s omniscience balanced against humanity’s power of free will. The Book of Revelation reads like a fever dream full of prophecy and symbolism, and the film explores the idea that Armageddon might not simply be the end of the world, but a test.”
Produced by Lam and Kate Kroll, president of Black Moon Media, the film employs a hybrid approach combining miniature sets and model cars with volume stage technology to create its fantastical 1970s environment.
“I’m incredibly excited to be premiering Armageddon Road at Fantaspoa, Latin America’s largest genre festival,” the director added. “It’s such an audience-driven festival, so catching the attention of respected distribution veteran Avi Federgreen and Red Water Entertainment feels like the double-frosted chocolate icing on the cake. I’m really looking forward to working together on our North American release.”
