Andy Warhol: American Dream, a documentary chronicling the artist’s family life, cultural influence, and rise to international fame, has been released by Vision Films.
Directed by Ľubomír Jan Slivka, the documentary film debuted on VOD platforms on April 13.
Written and edited by Petra Babic Slivkova, executive-produced and directed by Ľubomír Jan Slivka, and co-produced by Roman Gensky, the documentary explores Warhol’s American public image and his Slovak family background.
The film looks at the people and places that shaped Warhol before he became a household name and continued to influence him throughout his life.

The documentary includes interviews with Warhol’s relatives in Slovakia and the United States, among them cousin John Zavacky, nephew Donald Warhola, and artist James Warhola. Vision Films lists additional appearances by Elton John, author and curator Steven Watson, Martin Cubjak, and Michael Bycko, among many others.
The film was made in cooperation with the Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Art in Slovakia and The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Writer-producer Petra Babic Slivkova said the documentary “uncovers the man behind the icon.” She also comments that the film shows “Warhol not as a distant legend, but as a human being shaped by his origins, relationships, and inner contradictions. […] It is the closest we have ever come to truly knowing him.”
Vision Films CEO Lise Romanoff explains the documentary uncovers Warhol’s “humble, religious, and immigrant beginnings to one of the most revered and brilliant minds of our time.”
