The History Channel will premiere its new special “Ralph Lauren’s American Icons” as part of the network’s HISTORY Honors 250 campaign commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.

The 30-minute documentary explores legendary designer Ralph Lauren’s curation of a collection of 13 United States Postal Service stamps honoring iconic American imagery, marking the first time in history the USPS has invited an individual to curate an official stamp issuance. The special includes never-before-seen archival materials and commentary from David Lauren, Ken Burns and more.

The special premieres on Saturday, July 4, at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Grounded by an intimate interview with his son, David Lauren, and never-before-seen photographs and films from the Ralph Lauren archives, the special examines how Ralph Lauren helped shape the visual language of the American Dream. Through the lens of the stamp collection – featuring enduring American symbols including the American flag, the Empire State Building, Jackie Robinson’s baseball glove, the Diné (Navajo) blanket and the red pickup truck – the film explores the shared values of freedom, resilience, equality, independence and opportunity that continue to define the nation as America approaches the 250th anniversary of its founding.

Blending cinematic archival with creative graphics inspired by the stamps themselves, “Ralph Lauren’s American Icons” reflects on how America continues to tell – and redefine – its story across generations. The documentary features commentary from David Lauren, filmmaker Ken Burns, historian Yohuru Williams and director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History Anthea M. Hartig.

The special also includes unprecedented access inside the Smithsonian preservation chamber housing the original Star-Spangled Banner – a national treasure Ralph Lauren helped restore through a landmark $13 million donation – alongside exclusive footage from the USPS “First Day of Issue” ceremony unveiling the stamp collection at New York’s historic post office.

“Ralph Lauren’s American Icons” is part of The History Channel’s History Honors 250 campaign. Leading up to the landmark 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States in July 2026, The History Channel is marking this historic milestone with HISTORY Honors 250, a multiplatform initiative spanning nearly two years. The commemoration includes long-form and short-form programming, digital and social content, custom partnerships, premium events, and more. History Honors 250 highlights breakthrough innovations, major achievements, and unsung heroes that have shaped the United States since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
