Actor David Duchovny will be honored with the CineMerit Award at the Munich International Film Festival (Filmfest München) and present the international premiere of See You When I See You as the festival’s closing film.

Duchovny gained worldwide fame for his role as Fox Mulder in The X-Files, and in the following decade, the series Californication marked another major success, earning him a Golden Globe. After his first forays into directing on The X-Files, he went on to direct his own feature films, “House of D” (2004) and “Reverse the Curse” (2023)

Directed by Jay Duplass, See You When I See You is about a family trying to get their lives back to normal after losing their daughter. The story revolves around Aaron (Cooper Raiff), who is haunted by the death of his sister Leah and is struggling to stay grounded while tormented by guilt, memories, and grief. Based on the memoirs of stand-up comedian Adam Cayton-Holland, the film weaves moving and uplifting moments into a poignant story about loss, family, and togetherness. Cooper Raiff, Hope Davis, and Lucy Boynton star in the film alongside Duchovny.

“David Duchovny is one of those artists who are able to reinvent themselves while continuing to follow their own instincts. With our CineMerit Award, we wish to honor his inimitable charm, his extraordinary curiosity, and his willingness to keep exploring new creative frontiers. A true pop culture icon is coming to town, and we encourage everyone in Munich to get their tickets soon,” said Julia Weigl and Christoph Gröner, artistic directors of the Munich International Film Festival.

The CineMerit Award honors international filmmakers for their worldwide contribution to motion pictures. Previous recipients include Stellan Skarsgård, Gillian Anderson, Jessica Lange, Kate Winslet, and Barbara Sukowa. This year, the Munich Film Festival will take place from June 26 to July 5, 2026.
