Agnieszka Smoczyńska’s ‘Hot Spot’ Trailer – Noomi Rapace Star in Surreal Science Fiction Thriller

Andrzej Konopka and Noomi Rapace star in Agnieszka Smoczyńska’s Hot Spot, a sci-fi thriller set in a dystopian world controlled by artificial intelligence.

Hot Spot will make its world premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal in July, before opening in North American theaters on August 21, 2026.

In Hot Spot, set in a near-future society ruled by sentient A.I., a private eye investigates a murder case only to discover a rebel group capable of undermining the digital overlord. As the detective’s identity slowly unravels, his world enters a state of hypnotic meltdown.

This is Smoczyńska’s sophomore feature film, following her feature debut, the musical about hungry mermaids, The Lure, which won the Special Jury Award for Unique Vision and Design at the Sundance Film Festival in 2016. Hot Spot reunites her with screenwriter Robert Bolesto, who was a collaborator on The Lure, The Kindler and the Virgin, and The Field Guide to Evil.

Bolesto says, “To me, Hot Spot is a story where the main feeling is fear, just like in a horror movie. And in today’s world.”
