Actors Dustin Hoffman and Juliette Binoche, along with cinematographer Robert Richardson, will be honored at the 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival with a Crystal Globe award. The festival will present the President’s Award to actor Jeffrey Wright.

Dustin Hoffman will receive a Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema at the festival’s opening ceremony and present a screening of Mike Nichols’ The Graduate (1967), Hoffman’s first breakthrough film performance that earned him nominations for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA Award for Most Promising Newcomer.

Hoffman’s career spans over six decades and has played a role across a variety of cult classics and dramas, such as All the President’s Men (1976), Marathon Man (1976), and Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), a film that finally earned him his first Academy Award for Best Actor, as well as a Golden Globe. In 2012, he made his directorial debut with the film Quartet starring Maggie Smith, Tom Courtenay, Michael Gambon, and Billy Connolly.

At the closing ceremony, French actress Juliette Binoche will be presented with the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema. Three of her films, Certified Copy (2010), Three Colors: Blue (1993), and In-I in Motion (2025) will also be screened at the festival as part of the celebration.

Binoche’s role in André Téchiné’s Appointment (1985), earned her first César Award nomination, sending her into French stardom. She later entered the international spotlight after her performance in Philip Kaufman’s The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988), which was her first film shot entirely in English.

From the late 1980s to the early 1990s, Binoche worked closely with director Leos Carax, starring in Mauvais Sang (1986), a noir that earned her second César nomination, and Lovers on the Bridge (1991, Les Amants du Pont-Neuf), a drama that gave her a European Film Award and another César nomination. She also worked with director Krzysztof Kieślowski on the film Three Colors: Blue (1993, Trois Couleurs: Bleu), which earned her the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival, a César Award, and a Golden Globe nomination.

Binoche’s work with other filmmakers such as Anthony Minghella in his film The English Patient (1996) and in Lasse Hallström’s Chocolat (2000) has also scored her numerous accolades including an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, a BAFTA Award, a European Film Award, a Best Actress Award at the Berlinale, a People’s Choice Award for Best Actress, and another nomination for an Oscar and a Golden Globe. In 2024, Binoche was elected president of the European Film Academy, and is the second woman to hold that position.

The third recipient of the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution is cinematographer Robert Richardson, who has won three Academy Awards and received seven Oscar nominations. At the festival, Richardson will present the documentary portrait, Robert Richardson: The White Devil, alongside director Jana Hojdová.

In the mid-1980s, Richardson began a long-term partnership with director Oliver Stone to create Salvador (1986), Platoon (1986), Wall Street (1987), Born on the Fourth of July (1989), The Doors (1991), and JFK (1991). Richardson received his first Oscar nomination for Best Cinematography from Platoon, as well as his first Academy Award for JFK. With this work, Richardson was able to establish a cinematography style that featured documentary authenticity and stylish visuals, which is further honed in Heaven & Earth (1993), Natural Born Killers (1994), Nixon (1995), and U-Turn (1997).

Later in the 1990s, Richardson began to collaborate with director Martin Scorsese in the films Casino (1995), Bringing out the Dead (1999), The Aviator (2004, another Academy Award nomination), Shutter Island (2010), and Hugo (2011, also another Academy Award nomination). In 2003, he worked with Quentin Tarantino in the Kill Bill franchise (2003-2004), Inglourious Basterds (2009), Django Unchained (2012), The Hateful Eight (2015), and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), earning him three more Oscar nominations. He went on to help craft Let There Be Carnage (2021), Emancipation (2021), The Equalizer 3 (2023), Air (2023), and Madden (2026).

Throughout Richardson’s career, he has been recognized as one of the most respected cinematographers in the industry, receiving three Oscar awards for Best Cinematography – one of the few people alive to do so.

The festival will present actor Jeffrey Wright with the President’s Award, along with a screening of the biopic Basquiat (1996).

Wright’s career began in 1993 in the Broadway production of Angels in America, where he earned a Tony Award, a Primetime Emmy, and a Golden Globe in 2003. His first breakthrough film role was in Basquiat, and he went on to appear in Ride with the Devil (1999), Broken Flowers (2005), Only Lovers Left Alive (2013), and W. (2008). He has closely worked with filmmaker Wes Anderson, and starred in his films The French Dispatch (2021), Asteroid City (2023), and The Phoenician Scheme (2025).

More of Wright’s works include three films for the James Bond franchise: Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), and No Time to Die (2021), three films from the Hunger Games series: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014), and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015), the Netflix series The Laundromat (2019), and Spike Lee’s thriller Highest 2 Lowest (2025).

Wright recently won the British Academy Games Award for Performer in a Supporting Role for his voice performance in the video game Dispatch.
