The extraordinary true story of legendary Canadian daredevil Ken Carter takes center stage in The Stunt Driver, a historical comedy drama from filmmaker Michael Dowse.
Set in the mid-seventies, The Stunt Driver recounts the true underdog story of Canada’s Ken Carter (Jay Baruchel), the world champion stunt driver who battles personal demons and public doubt to attempt what everyone considers impossible – a mile-long jump across the St. Lawrence river in a rocket car.
Starring in the film are Jay Baruchel as the fearless stuntman alongside Ben Foster, Ed Helms, Laurence Leboeuf, and Dan Bakkedahl.
Directed and written by Dowse, The Stunt Driver is set to make its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) before arriving in U.S. theaters on September 25, 2026, through Independent Film Company.
According to Protagonist Pictures, the official synopsis reads: “The Stunt Driver recounts the real-life story of Ken Carter, the fearless Canadian stunt driver who risks everything to jump a rocket-powered car over the mile-wide St. Lawrence Seaway, a stunt that would have him jump from Canada into the United States. Battling personal demons, public doubt, and a rival daredevil, this is a true story of a man’s relentless quest to be remembered.”
