David Ayer’s film, Heart of the Beast, starring Brad Pitt, has been added as an Official Selection, out of competition, of the San Sebastián International Film Festival.
In this adventure thriller, Brad Pitt plays a former Special Forces officer who, accompanied by his retired combat dog, must survive in the Alaskan wilderness following a harrowing plane crash.
Also starring in the film are J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe.
Here is the synopsis: After a harrowing plane crash, Special Forces officer James Belmont and his combat dog, Odin, find themselves stranded deep in the Alaskan wilderness. Together, they are forced into a brutal fight for survival against the elements. From acclaimed filmmaker David Ayer, Heart of the Beast is an intense adventure thriller that explores the unbreakable bond between a man and his best friend as they face their greatest battle yet.
The film will also mark Pitt’s return to San Sebastián following his 2009 visit, when he presented Inglourious Basterds alongside its director, Quentin Tarantino, in the Perlak section.
After writing screenplays for Oscar-nominated films such as U-571 (Jonathan Mostow, 2000) and Training Day (Antoine Fuqua, 2001), American director, screenwriter and producer David Ayer (Champaign, Illinois, 1968) began directing in 2005, and has been delivering gritty, character-driven thrillers and crime dramas for over 20 years, including End of Watch (2012), Fury (2014) and The Beekeeper (2024).
