Synopsis

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band offer the most in-depth look ever at the creation of their legendary live performances – sharing fly-on-the-wall footage of band rehearsals and special moments backstage – as well as hearing directly from Springsteen on the topic. Fans get the chance to experience professionally shot footage from the 2023-2024 tour for the first time ever – while following the band through their one-of-a-kind preparation process, and onto performances for tens-of-thousands across continents.

“The unspoken language of collaborating with a band is what I was trying to share with a viewing audience as a filmmaker: the band leader, Bruce, [and] the musical director, Stevie,” Director Thom Zimny says in an interview with Hollywood Reporter. “Those are the things that are hard to capture in film because you have to be around for a long time, and they happen in glimpses and moments.”

Reviews

Brian Tallerico in a RogerEbert.com review praised the documentary, writing, “The best stuff in here is detail-oriented, and there’s just enough of it. But there are also a few too many shots of cheering fans to elevate it above fanservice, even if I’m one of those fans.”

Owen Gleiberman in a Variety review also praised the documentary, writing, “At the end, Bruce, speaking to us in voiceover, says that he plans to just keep going, to play in concert “until the wheels come off.” Watching “Road Diary,” you hope they never do”
