Beanpole, the Russian post-WWII drama from director Kantemir Balagov is one step closer to winning an Oscar, as the film made the Oscar shortlist for Best International Feature Film. Beanpole opens in theaters in NYC at Film Forum on January 29 and in Los Angeles at Landmark Nuart on February 14.

A24 (the studio that brought you ‘The Witch,’ ‘Hereditary,’ and ‘Midsommar‘) released today the official trailer for the psychological horror film Saint Maud, written and directed by filmmaker Rose Glass. The indie drama Swallow, written and directed by Carlo Mirabella-Davis, in his directorial debut will open in select theaters and on demand on March 6th, 2020. Swallow which world premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival stars Haley Bennett, Austin Stowell, Elizabeth Marvel, David Rasche and Denis O’Hare.

Nominees for the 26th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® for outstanding individual, cast and ensemble performances in film and television of 2019 were announced this morning at the Pacific Design Center’s SilverScreen Theater in West Hollywood. Marriage Story scored Best Actor nominations for Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson along with Supporting Actor nomination for Laura Dern; while the cast of Parasite were nominated along with JoJo Rabbit, The Irishman and more for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

The Los Angeles Film Critics Association named Bong Joon-ho‘s Parasite as Best Picture of 2019 along with Best Director for Joon-ho and Best Supporting Actor for Song Kang Ho, with Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman as runner-up in all three categories.

The 19th edition of the Whistler Film Festival (WFF) tagged as ‘Canada’s coolest film fest’ wrapped on Sunday night with the Audience Award going to the North American premiere of LIBERTÉ: A CALL TO SPY, an exciting true story about female spies during WWII. The film is an American title shot partly in Budapest and was produced, written by and stars Sarah Megan Thomas and was directed by Lydia Dean Pilcher.
