Chilean-born, Montreal-based composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer will receive Miami Dade College’s (MDC) acclaimed Miami Film Festival’s Art of Light (Composer) Award, presented by Alacran Group, at its 39th edition, set to continue with an in-person format running from March 4-13, 2022.
The 33rd Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) announced the juried award winners with the Mexican film Prayers For the Stolen winning both the FIPRESCI and Ibero-American Award Prizes. Salvadoran-Mexican documentarian Tatiana Huezo makes her narrative debut with this powerful adaptation of Jennifer Clement’s bestselling 2014 novel, which explores the lives of three young girls impacted by Mexico’s ongoing cartel wars.

Viens je t’emmène (Nobody’s Hero) by Alain Guiraudie will open the Panorama 2022 program of the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival. A total of 29 films from 33 countries are confirmed for this year’s program, including ew films by Isabelle Stever, Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson and Alejandra Márquez Abella. Elliot Page has joined the Italian film Nel mio nome (Into My Name) as executive producer and there is a documentary focus on Sub-Saharan Africa with three films.
Berlin International Film Festival continues to add films to the upcoming 72nd edition, confirming films in the Forum and Classics programs. The Forum Special program includes 27 feature-length works in the main program, 14 feature-length works and shorts in the Forum Special program; and Berlinale Classics will present seven world premieres of classic films in digitally restored versions. The Berlinale Classics section opens with Mamma Roma on February 11, and the silent film Brüder (Brothers) with a live music concert will premiere on February 13.

IFC Midnight dropped the official trailer for Hatching (Pahanhautoja), the Finnish body horror film starring Jani Volanen, Reino Nordin, Saija Lentonen, Siiri Solalinna and Sophia Heikkilä set to premiere at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.

The 27th annual St. Louis Jewish Film Festival will be held virtually this spring, March 6 – 13, presenting a selection of documentary and feature films from around the world. While all films depict a piece of the Jewish experience, the themes are universal and are meant to appeal to all, regardless of faith. In addition to 13 compelling films, the Festival offers discussions with filmmakers and others associated with the films.

Get the first look at Sirens, directed by LA-based filmmaker Rita Baghdadi, set to World Premiere at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. Executive produced by Natasha Lyonne and Maya Rudolph (Animal Pictures), among others, Sirens follows the Middle East’s first all-female metal band as they wrestle with friendship, sexuality and destruction in their pursuit of becoming thrash metal rock stars. The film will be shown as part of the festival’s World Cinema Documentary Competition.

Berlin International Film Festival 2022 revealed films in the two competition program Generation Kplus and Generation 14plus featuring 24 feature-length films and 28 short films. The focus of the overall Generation selection is on young people: how they perceive the world, how they appropriate it or how they oppose it.

The first international trailer debuted via Variety for Speak No Evil, the Danish horror film which is set to world premiere at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. Directed by Christian Tafdrup, the film stars Morten Burian, Sidsel Siem Koch, Fedja van Huêt, Karina Smulders, Liva Forsberg, and Marius Damslev.
