Stefanie Sparks’ Edgy Comedy IN CASE OF EMERGENCY Gets a VOD Release Date of July 24 [Trailer]
NYC filmmaker Stefanie Sparks wrote, produced, directed, and stars in the edgy comedy film “In Case of Emergency,” which is being released on Prime Video and iTunes on July 24.
This darkly comic gem won the audience choice award at Bushwick Film Festival after being selected as the opening night film, and went on to win Best Feature at the Broad Humor Film Festival and the audience choice award at New Filmmakers New York. With a soundtrack of feminist-fueled anthems by The Coathangers, Girlpool, Chastity Belt, Childbirth, and more, this edgy comedy is an entertaining commentary on the intense social pressure for women to “have it all.”
In Case of Emergency is one woman’s sometimes raunchy, always funny internal battle of style vs. substance. Following an accident, NYC socialite Sarah Williams is forced to reevaluate her life goals. Is she ready to put away her judgements and pearls to descend into the subways of redemption? Or will she continue up the photo shopped elevator towards a lonely, bitter Park Avenue high rise?
Stefanie Sparks breathes satiric perfection into Sarah, with comedic actress Jenni Ruiza starring as her social opposite and unlikely supporter, Melinda. Annapurna Sriram and Andrea Morales round out the cast as Sarah’s perfectly-coiffed best “frenemies.” The film also features appearances by Phoebe Robinson (2 Dope Queens) and Cathy Curtin (Orange is the New Black), as well as other emerging female comedians.

MarVista Entertainment has released the new trailer for The Year of Spectacular Men directed by Lea Thompson. Jackson, Cameron Monaghan, Zach Roerig, and Nicholas Braun, opens in theaters on June 15th.

Unsure of what the next step is, her movie star little sister Sabrina convinces her to move back home to Los Angeles and into her shared apartment with movie star boyfriend Sebastian, where they can keep an eye on rudderless Izzy. Emotionally unable to deal with the loss of her father, and slightly distracted by her mother Deb’s newfound love affair with loopy yogi Amythyst, Izzy funnels her energy into dating a colorful bouquet of five complicated and spectacular men: Aaron, Ross, Logan, Mikey, and Charlie, over the course of the next year. Coping just barely with the help of her trusty notebook, she falls in and out of some not so romantic romances, and figures out that when it totally feels like the end of your story, it’s often just the beginning.

Comedy Film ‘The Breaker Upperers’ by Jackie van Beek and Madeleine Sami to Open 2018 Sydney Film Festival [Trailer]
The Breaker Upperers, by New Zealand directors Jackie van Beek, Madeleine Sami will open the 2018 Sydney Film Festival on June 6. In this side-splittingly funny film, Jackie van Beek and Madeleine Sami star as best friends who run an unconventional business breaking up couples for cash.
Directors Jackie van Beek and Madeleine Sami star as Jen and Mel, who 15 years ago discovered that they were being two-timed by the same man. From heartbreak, a friendship blossomed, alongside a hearty cynicism about love and relationships. And so The Breaker Upperers was born, a business helping people who lack the courage to end their relationships. Faking deaths, impersonating cops and strippers, and feigning pregnancies are all part of their extensive repertoire. But when consciences resurface and the prospect of romance rears up, the unbreakable friendship between the two starts to show its first cracks. The Breaker Upperers is refreshingly candid about modern sexuality and beautifully captures a multicultural community. Executive produced by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows, SFF 2014), The Breaker Upperers is a joyous, hilarious film.
