The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has completed the designated Oscar nominees that were yet to be determined in the Animated Feature Film, Documentary Feature Film and Best Picture categories at the time of the 97th Oscars nominations announcement on Thursday, January 23.

Sean Baker’s Anora continued its front-runner status, winning him the 2024 Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film.
The Wild Robot won Best Feature at the 52nd Annie Awards, taking home 9 prizes including Annie for Best FX- Feature (Derek Cheung, Michael Losure, David Chow, Nyoung Kim, Steve Avoujageli), Best Character Animation – Feature (Fabio Lignini), Best Character Design – Feature (Genevieve Tsai), Best Direction – Feature (Chris Sanders), Best Music – Feature (Kris Bowers), Best Production Design – Feature (Raymond Zibach, Ritchie Sacilioc) Best Voice Acting – Feature (Lupita Nyong’o as Roz) and Best Editorial – Feature (Mary Blee, Collin Erker, Orlando Duenas, Lucie Lyon, Brian Parker).

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the contemporary Saudi-language thriller Unidentified directed by Haifaa Al Mansour (Wadjda, The Perfect Candidate), and starring Mila Al Zahrani (The Perfect Candidate, The Cello) along with Shafi Al Harthi (A Woman’s Life).

Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist won the top prize, and the film’s only win, for Film of the Year at the 45th London Critics’ Circle Film Awards, with Nickel Boys, Conclave, and A Real Pain dominating with multiple wins for other awards.
