The Boston Society of Film Critics (BSFC) announced its winners for the 45th annual awards for achievements in film, honoring Anora with Best Film honors, along with Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for Sean Baker, Best Actress for Mikey Madison.

Poor Things, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, has been chosen the film of the year 2024 by the members of FIPRESCI, the International Federation of Film Critics and awarded the FIPRESCI Grand Prix. The organization selected the title from among all of the films premiered after July 1, 2023.

51 films representing all 27 EU member gets the spotlight at this year’s 36th AFI European Union Film Showcase, taking place November 30–December 19, 2023, at the American Film Institute’s historic theatre in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The European Film Academy added 21 more films to the shortlist for the European Film Awards’ Feature Film Selection 2023, now comprising 40 European feature films. The Toronto International Film Festival announced the 2023 selection for the Wavelengths and Classics programs described as “politically charged, geographically diverse, and formally thrilling” featuring new films by Radu Jude, Isiah Medina, Eduardo Williams, Angela Schanelec, Rosine Mbakam, Wang Bing, Chantal Akerman, Pedro Costa, Jean-Luc Godard, Ja’Tovia Gary, Steve Reinke, and Shambhavi Kaul. This year’s Wavelengths boasts 12 feature films and 19 shorts, as well as a suite of four restored early films by the singular Chantal Akerman.
