Portrait of a Lady on Fire and Parasite led the film nominations for GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics’ 11th Dorian Awards given for the best in film and television of 2019. Portrait of a Lady on Fire and was nominated for Film of the Year, Foreign Language Film of the Year and LGBT Film of the Year.

The National Society of Film Critics voted the South Korean film PARASITE as Best Picture of the Year 2019. Parasite also won for Best Screenplay for Bong Joon Ho and Han Jin Won. The Society, which is made up of 60 of the country’s most prominent movie critics, held its 54th annual awards voting meeting as guests of the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York City, using a weighted ballot system.

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) announced the winners of the 9th AACTA International Awards – winning the Award for Best Film was the South Korean black comedy thriller PARASITE, written and directed by Bong Joon Ho who accepted the Australian Academy’s highest Award. The film also received the AACTA Award for Best Asian Film at the AACTA Awards in Sydney last month.

Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood leads the nominations for the Music City Film Critics’ Association 2019 Film Awards with 9 nominations.

Marriage Story, Parasite, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Apollo 11, and Monos, are among the films nominated by the Online Film Critics Society (OFCS) for the awards for best films of 2019.

Former president Barack Obama shared his list of favorite movies of 2019 which included American Factory, a film from his own production company, Higher Ground, that was recently shortlisted for an Oscar. The list features primarily some of the most critically acclaimed indie films and documentaries of 2019 including Amazing Grace, Apollo 11, Ash Is Purest White and The Last Black Man in San Francisco.

Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Little Women leads the nominations for the Chicago Indie Critics fourth annual film awards with eight nominations. The Irishman, Marriage Story, 1917, and Parasite followed with seven nominations.

The Utah Film Critics awarded South Korean director Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite the top honor of Best Picture of 2019. The film was also recognized as Best Non-English Language Film, and for the Original Screenplay by Bong and Jin Won Han.

The Florida Film Critics Circle awarded the French language period piece Portrait of a Lady on Fire its Best Picture prize. Portrait of a Lady on Fire tied with Marriage Story for the most wins but received some of the highest honors including Best Director for director Céline Sciamma, and Best Foreign Language film.

The San Francisco Bay Area Film Critics Circle announced their 2019 award winners with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood winning award for Best Picture of 2019. Best Foreign Language Film went to Parasite, Best Documentary went to Apollo 11 and Special Citation for Independent Cinema was given to Director Shin’ichiro Ueda’s One Cut of the Dead.
