David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future, Jerzy Skolimowski’s EO, and Charlotte Wells’s Aftersun took the top spots among films released in 2022 on Film Comment’s annual end-of-year survey. Of the films that screened at festivals worldwide but have not announced stateside distribution, David Easteal’s The Plains, Bertrand Bonello’s Coma, and Laura Citarella’s Trenque Lauquen received the top rankings.
The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) 2022 unveiled the selections for Luminous and Frontlight, two premiere-only cornerstones of the program, in addition to the lineups for live cinema section IDFA on Stage and experimental section Paradocs. The 35th edition of IDFA takes place in person from November 9 to 20, 2022.
The 66th BFI London Film Festival (LFF) announced the full program line-up of films, series and immersive art works from over 63 countries with 41% of the program made by female and non-binary directors/creators or co-directors/creators and 34% made by ethnically diverse directors/creators.
Berlin International Film Festival continues to add films to the upcoming 72nd edition, confirming films in the Forum and Classics programs. The Forum Special program includes 27 feature-length works in the main program, 14 feature-length works and shorts in the Forum Special program; and Berlinale Classics will present seven world premieres of classic films in digitally restored versions. The Berlinale Classics section opens with Mamma Roma on February 11, and the silent film Brüder (Brothers) with a live music concert will premiere on February 13.
