Berln Film Festival announced the prize winners of the section Perspektive Deutsches Kino, with the Compass-Perspektive-Award for the best film going to Janna Ji Wonders for the film Walchensee Forever. The prize is endowed with 5,000 Euros, and as a trophy, the director received a real compass, which is intended to serve as symbolic orientation and show her the direction to take going into the future.

Picturehouse released the trailer for the religious drama Fatima directed by Marco Pontecorvo (Pa-ra-da, “Game of Thrones”). Based on real-life events, the film tells the story of a 10-year-old shepherd and her two younger cousins in Fátima, Portugal, who report visions of the Virgin Mary, inspiring thousands of believers but angering officials of both the Catholic Church and the secularist government, who try to force them to recant their story.

Lynn Chen’s (“Saving Face”) I Will Make You Mine, part of the Surrogate Valentine trilogy, release the official trailer ahead of its world premiere at 2020 SXSW Film Festival. Following SXSW premiere, Gravitas Ventures will release the film on demand starting May 26.

IFC released the official trailer for The Painted Bird, the black-and-white holocaust drama directed by Václav Marhoul set during World War II. The film is an adaptation of Jerzy Kosiński’s novel of the same name and was selected to represent the Czech Republic in the Oscar race for Best International Feature Film. The Painted Bird starring Petr Kotlár, Udo Kier, Lech Dyblik, Jitka Čvančarová, Stellan Skarsgard, Harvey Keitel, Julian Sands, Aleksey Kravchenko, and Barry Pepper, opens in New York and Los Angeles on April 17, 2020

The Chilean film The Wolf House (La casa lobo) by Cristóbal León and Joaquín Cociña, winner of the Jury Prize at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival and the Cinema Tropical Award for Best First Film, opens on Friday, March 20 at Anthology Film Archives in New York City and on Friday, March 27 at the Laemmle Glendale in Los Angeles.

EFM: Epic Pictures Group has acquired the Fantastic Fest breakout comedy-thriller Butt Boy from director and co-writer Tyler Cornack. The film is set to release April 3rd with support from Alamo Drafthouses nationwide.
