Directors’ Fortnight (Quinzaine des cinéastes), the independent section held in parallel to the Cannes Film Festival, has unveiled the lineup for the 57th edition taking place May 14-24, 2025.
Directors’ Fortnight will open with Enzo, the drama film directed by Robin Campillo (BPM Beats Per Minute) who stepped in to direct the feature film after his friend and the film’s co-writer Laurent Cantet died. It follows a 16-year-old boy who defies his upper class family’s expectations by starting a masonry apprenticeship where he meets a charismatic Ukrainian colleague who shakes up his world.
It will close with Sorry, Baby, the drama film directed by Eva Victor and produced by Moonlight filmmaker Barry Jenkins. The film which premiered at Sundance Film Festival where it won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award: US Dramatic, tells the story of a college professor trying to recover from a sexual assault.
At the festival, Todd Haynes will receive the Carrosse d’Or honor, during the Directors’ Fortnight’s opening ceremony; and filmmaker Thomas Cailley (Love at First Fight (2014) and The Animal Kingdom (2023)) is the first Prix Alpine winner, which he will receive during the closing ceremony. The Prix Alpine aims to reward filmmakers who dare to shatter conventions and blaze new trails in French and international cinema.
