Here is the first trailer for Death Boom, a documentary that uncovers the corruption around the deathcare industry as workers prepare for the deaths of 76 million Baby Boomers.
The film, which made its world premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, is directed by Jessica Chandler and produced by Eli Roth, who also narrates the story.

Eighty years after the start of the “Baby Boom”, the tens of millions of Americans born during that era will soon pass away – launching into the “Death Boom”, a surge of almost 80 million Baby Boomer deaths across the country. While deathcare workers start preparing for this large spike in deaths, they’ll stick to traditional practices of burials and cremation. But, it may be time to explore other, greener methods as the deceased body count skyrockets. This film exposes the mental and environmental impacts of the funeral industry and showcases the potential for nationally legalizing more sustainable deathcare practices and normalizing conversations about death and grief.
In an interview with ComingSoon, Roth explains the basis of the documentary and why they are questioning these practices. “How come we are told that we have to do the system, which can charge you anywhere from 50, to 100 thousand to 250 thousand dollars per funeral? So, you’re bankrupting your family. What are you leaving behind – poison, chemicals, and your family in debt? And with 76 million people coming up and dying, [corporations] are licking their chops that a $20 billion boom is going to happen in their industry.”
He adds, “And we’re saying that what is blocking it? Who are the politicians that are in the pocket of the funeral industry, and why does the Catholic Church want us to buy into the system when it’s so clear that our bodies are designed, by God, to break down naturally in the soil? So what is it? What is going on here, and why are we not allowed to talk about it?”
