The Town That Takes, directed by and starring Britt Bankhead, is a supernatural horror thriller inspired by the disappearance of the Lost Colony of Roanoke.
The film brings the unsolved mystery to life, telling a story about the only clue that the colony left behind – a single word: CROATOAN.
Also starring in the horror film are Miles Mussenden (Doom Patrol, Cloak & Dagger), Mike Markoff (Hit Man), and Grace Patterson (Slotherhouse).
Atlas Distribution Company is set to release The Town That Takes in select theaters on July 10, 2026.

In the supernatural thriller, Dean Richardson, a troubled Army veteran, is attempting to rebuild a relationship with his estranged twelve-year-old son, Wyatt, following the sudden death of his ex-wife.
Their journey takes a sudden, terrifying turn when they find themselves in a remote backwoods town haunted by whispers of the word “CROATOAN”. When Wyatt suddenly disappears, and Dean gets accused as the prime suspect of a brutal murder, he is forced to work with veteran Detective Douglas O’Shea and rookie Detective St. Clair to reveal the answers behind unexplained deaths, disappearances, and impossible encounters that have been spreading in the region.
As evidence points towards something far older and more sinister than a simple murder investigation, Dean races to uncover the truth behind the legend before an ancient evil claims another victim.
“This is the kind of film that reminds you why summer belongs in a theater. Britt Bankhead took one of the oldest unsolved mysteries in American history and built a supernatural thriller that gets under your skin and stays there. It is genuinely frightening, it is smart, and it delivers the kind of edge-of-your-seat dread that audiences will want to experience together on the big screen. We are proud to bring it to theaters,” said Harmon Kaslow, President of Atlas Distribution Company.
