‘Union County’ Trailer – Will Poulter and Noah Centineo Star in Adam Meeks’ Drama on Opioid Epidemic

Will Poulter and Noah Centineo star in Adam Meeks’ Union County as brothers on the path to sobriety after suffering from the opioid epidemic in rural Ohio.

They join Annette Deao, who plays the role of a counselor, as well as a supporting cast made predominantly of non-professional actors as they share their actual experiences, pain, and optimism as they, themselves, undergo the rehabilitation program.

Brothers Cody (Poulter) and Jack (Centineo) are each navigating a court-mandated drug rehabilitation program in a part of rural Ohio that was hit hard by the opioid epidemic. For the first time since their addiction began, the brothers receive newfound hope and support as each of them strives for a better, sober future.

Meeks, an Ohio-born filmmaker, wrote and directed Union County for his feature debut. The film opens in cinemas on August 14.

“The opioid epidemic has been ravaging the United States for decades, and while much attention has been paid to Big Pharma and the root causes and effects of the epidemic, topics of addiction treatment and access to recovery communities are still under-recognized. Although many recovery programs across the country are ineffective or problematic, the drug courts I’ve observed in Ohio are profound in their values, their success rates, and in their underlying sense of hope and connection. With Union County I’ve intended to look directly at that notion of connection, to celebrate the drug court and its participants, and to explore a complex but hopeful counter-narrative to the opioid epidemic that needs to be seen — a young man getting back on his feet,” said Meeks in a statement.

In their review, Collider wrote, “In his feature debut, director and writer Adam Meeks charts a quiet and deeply human journey of a man’s path to sobriety, with all of the winding roads and detours that it requires.”
