Directed by Scott Weintrob, Untold Mr. T: I Pity The Fool is a new Netflix documentary examining the life and career of Laurence Tureaud, known in popular culture as Mr. T.
The film looks beyond the gold chains, mohawks, and memorable catchphrases that made him an icon of the 1980s, focusing instead on the experiences that shaped his public persona.
Mr. T appears in the documentary alongside Scott Weintrob, with the film revisiting his journey from Chicago’s South Side to roles in Rocky III and The A-Team.
Untold Mr. T: I Pity The Fool is part of the latest group of standalone documentaries from Netflix’s Untold series. The new films began releasing weekly on August 25, 2026, with Untold: The Testimony of Vince Young, followed by Untold Raygun: Breaking Badly and Untold Mr. T: I Pity The Fool.
The documentary will be available on Netflix beginning September 8, 2026.

Before becoming known for his roles as Clubber Lang in Rocky III and B.A. Baracus in The A-Team, Tureaud grew up in Chicago as the youngest of 12 children. The documentary traces the experiences that influenced his decision to create the name and persona of Mr. T, as well as his transition into entertainment.
His career changed after he was noticed during his appearance on Games People Play, which eventually led to his casting as Clubber Lang in Rocky III. From there, his television and film roles, distinctive appearance, and signature phrase, “I pity the fool,” helped establish him as a recognizable figure in pop culture. The film also resists his connection to professional wrestling and his continued influence decades after his breakthrough.
In the official trailer, Mr. T reflects on the experiences that shaped his identity and explains why he chose the name that would eventually become known worldwide.
Speaking about his childhood, he says, “Growing up and watching my father being called ‘Boy,’ I ordained myself Mr. T so the first word out of everybody’s mouth would be mister.” The documentary also features reflections on his rise to Rocky III, his work on the A-Team, and the public image that developed around his chains, mohawk, and larger-than-life personality.
