The Brazilian Oscar entry I’m Still Here won the FIPRESCI Prize for Best International Feature Film at the 36th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF). Directed by Walter Salles, the film stars Fernanda Torres and Fernanda Montenegro as Eunice Paiva, a mother of five children coping with the forced disappearance of her husband, the dissident politician Rubens Paiva, during the military dictatorship in Brazil in the 1970s.

Alex Ross Perry’s Pavements will open the 27th San Francisco Independent Film Festival (SF IndieFest) taking place from February 6 to 18, 2025. The documentary chronicles the story of one of the popular 90s bands.

The 9th MidWest WeirdFest, set to take place from March 6-9, 2025, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, has unveiled its first wave of seven feature films. Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof will attend the 2025 Göteborg Film Festival, and present his film, The Seed of the Sacred Fig, which is banned in Iran. The Seed of the Sacred Fig is the centerpiece of the festival’s Focus: Disobedience and will have its premiere on January 30 followed by a Directors Talk with Rasoulof. Mohammad Rasoulof is also featured as the screenwriter of Seven Days by Ali Samadi Ahadi, which will be shown during the Göteborg Film Festival.
