Searchlight Pictures unveiled a series of global screenings to commemorate Chloé Zhao’s upcoming feature film NOMADLAND’s invitations to Venice, Toronto, Telluride, and New York Film Festivals. Zhao’s third film, an exploration of modern-day van dwelling life on the road, will World Premiere with simultaneous screenings on September 11th at the 77th Venice International Film Festival and the 45th Toronto International Film Festival, both of which will feature virtual introductions by producer, writer, editor, and director Zhao, and producer and actor Frances McDormand. Telluride, which canceled its 47th edition due to the global pandemic, will host a special “Telluride from Los Angeles” drive-in screening in Southern California later in the evening, featuring in-person appearances by Zhao and McDormand. Additionally, the New York Film Festival announced NOMADLAND as the Centerpiece Selection of the 58th edition of the festival, leading into a domestic theatrical release this fall, subsequently rolling out internationally.

Venice International Film Festival revealed the members of the four international Juries (Venezia 77, Orizzonti, “Luigi De Laurentiis” Venice Award for Best Debut Film, Venice Virtual Reality) for the 77th edition of the festival taking place September 2 -12, 2020.

Venetian director Andrea Segre’s (Io sono Li, La prima neve, Il pianeta in mare) documentary Molecole (68′), made in Venice during the coronavirus lockdown, will be screened on the Pre-opening night of the 77th Venice International Film Festival. The pre-opening night screening will take place on Tuesday, Septemeber 1st, in Sala Darsena (Palazzo del Cinema) at the Lido.

The final selection of films has been announced for the Venice Classics section of the 77th Venice International Film Festival, which will be hosted this year as part of the Il Cinema Ritrovato program promoted by the Cineteca di Bologna, set to take place from August 25-31 in Bologna.

Filmmaker Ann Hui and iconic actress Tilda Swinton will receive the honors of Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 77th Venice International Film Festival to take place from September 2 – 12 September, 2020.

The New York, Venice, Telluride, and Toronto International film festivals have joined together to commit to collaboration in a time of uncertainty. The joint statement reads:

The 77th edition of the Venice Film Festival will take place September 2-12 with some minor changes to comply with Covid-19 protocols.

The We Are One: A Global Film Festival, co-curated by 21 prolific festivals including Berlin International Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, and Venice Film Festival, will feature over 100 films, in addition to talks, VR content and musical performances. The festival, produced and organized by Tribeca Enterprises and YouTube, will run exclusively May 29 – June 7 on YouTube.

The Italian Virtual Reality film Vajont from director Iolanda Di Bonaventura and producer Saverio Trapasso was selected at the close of the fourth edition of the Biennale College Cinema – VR to receive support from La Biennale to cover its production costs.
