The 2023 San Luis Obispo International Film Festival announces the film lineup for 29th edition running April 25 to May 7. The 29th edition of the festival opens with Matt Johnson’s BlackBerry and will close with Marvin Samel’s IMordecai.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the feature films eligible for consideration in the Animated Feature Film, Documentary Feature Film and International Feature Film categories for the 95th Academy Awards.

Qiu Jiongjiong’s A New Old Play from China – a fascinating tale of a family of Sichuan Opera artists living through a tumultuous era – has been named Best Film for the Young Cinema Competition (Chinese Language) at the 46th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF46). Besides winning the Firebird Award, A New Old Play was also the pick of the FIPRESCI Prize jury, who commended the film for “its masterful approach and inventive visual style.”

The European Film Academy Board has chosen 30 films to be part of the Academy´s Feature Film Selection 2022 for the European Film Awards. The Feature Film Selection includes films that the Board of the Academy recommends to all Academy members for a nomination for the European Film Awards 2022. In a second part, 10-15 further titles for the Feature Film Selection will be announced in September.

For its 75th Anniversary edition, Edinburgh International Film Festival announced the program of 87 new feature films structured across 3 Galas, 5 themed strands, 1 Big Screen Presentation and 10 films in competition as part of the new The Powell & Pressburger Award for Best Feature Film. Edinburgh International Film Festival runs from August 12th to 20th, 2022.

Triangle of Sadness directed by Ruben Östlund won the Palme d’or, the top prize at the 75th Cannes Film Festival. In the film starring Woody Harrelson as Thomas, The Captain, models Carl and Yaya are invited for a luxury cruise with a rogues’ gallery of super-rich passengers. At first, all appears Instagrammable. But a storm is brewing, and the cruise ends catastrophically. Carl and Yaya find themselves marooned on a desert island with a group of billionaires and one of the ship’s cleaners. Hierarchy is suddenly flipped upside down, as the housekeeper is the the only one who knows how to fish.

Cannes Film Festival added more films to the lineup for the 75th edition of the festival, taking place May 17 to May 28.
