Directors’ Fortnight (Quinzaine des cinéastes), the independent section held in parallel to the Cannes Film Festival, has unveiled the lineup for the 57th edition taking place May 14-24, 2025.

The 2025 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, scheduled for June 8–14 in Annecy, France, revealed the 21 feature films in the Official Selection. This year’s edition pays tribute to Hungarian animation, spotlighting both classic and contemporary works.


The political thriller Words of War starring Maxine Peake (The Theory of Everything, The Village), Ciarán Hinds (Belfast, Game of Thrones), and Jason Isaacs (White Lotus, Harry Potter, Death of Stalin) will open in select theaters in the U.S. on May 2, to coincide with World Press Freedom Day on May 3rd, expanding internationally this summer.


Titled In Search of Us, the Immersive program of the 2025 Tribeca Festival will spotlight 11 projects – including six world premieres. The program will be hosted by Water Street Projects at WSA, transforming the space into a hub of innovation, reflection, and collective imagination.

Filmmaker Peter McDowell delves into the mysterious life and untimely death of his older brother, Jimmy McDowell in the documentary Jimmy in Saigon. At just 24, Jimmy, a Vietnam War veteran, died in Saigon in 1972. Through a decade-long investigation, Peter embarks on a personal journey across the U.S., Vietnam, and France, seeking to unravel the secrets surrounding his brother’s past, including aspects of his sexuality and rumored drug use.

To Kill a Mongolian Horse and Black Ox have won the top prizes – Firebird Awards in the Young Cinema Competition at the 49th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF49).

Inspired by the Book The Everglades: River of Grass by Marjory Stoneman Douglas, the documentary River of Grass is the feature debut from artist and filmmaker Sasha Wortzel. The film is described as an “ode to the Everglades, told through the writings of Marjory Stoneman Douglas, and those who today call the region home.”

The true crime thriller Sovereign, starring Dennis Quaid, Nick Offerman, and Jacob Tremblay will World Premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Festival, followed by release on June 20, 2025, by Briarcliff Entertainment.
